GFCO Gluten-Free Certification
Issued by Gluten-Free Certification Organization (program of Gluten Intolerance Group)
CertificationAudit Scope
Product testing for ≤10 ppm gluten (stricter than FDA's 20 ppm <gluten-free> labeling threshold) plus facility audit for cross-contamination controls. Periodic re-testing required.
What It Proves
Product tested ≤10 ppm gluten and facility cross-contamination controls verified per GFCO standard. Listing in GFCO certified-product database.
What It Does Not Prove
Does NOT mean the product is free of other allergens (dairy, soy, nuts). Does NOT certify nutritional value, safety, or efficacy. Does NOT equate to uncertified 'gluten-free' label claims, which FDA allows at ≤20 ppm without third-party audit. Different gluten-free certifiers (NSF, GFCO, Celiac Sprue Association) use different thresholds and audit protocols.
