ISO 22716 — Cosmetics Good Manufacturing Practice
Issued by International Organization for Standardization (ISO)
StandardAudit Scope
Internationally recognized GMP standard for cosmetic manufacturing covering production, control, storage, and shipment of cosmetic products. Published 2007. Third-party certification bodies (SGS, Intertek, BSI, TÜV, etc.) audit and certify facilities against this standard.
What It Proves
Third-party certification body has audited the manufacturer's facility, processes, and quality systems against the ISO 22716 cosmetics-GMP framework. Relevant for vendors producing topical, cosmetic, or personal-care lines alongside supplements.
What It Does Not Prove
Does NOT certify product safety, efficacy, or ingredient composition — only manufacturing-process quality. Does NOT replace dietary-supplement GMP standards (21 CFR Part 111 / NSF/ANSI 455-2) for ingestible-supplement production. Does NOT mean the product is organic, natural, vegan, or hypoallergenic. ISO does NOT itself certify entities — certification is issued by accredited third-party bodies. Required reference under EU Cosmetic Regulation 1223/2009; voluntary in the U.S.
