Supplement Packaging
ProductionAlso known as: Product packaging, Primary packaging, Secondary packaging
The containers, closures, and labeling that protect and identify a supplement product.
What It Means
Supplement packaging includes primary packaging (bottles, pouches, blister packs in direct contact with the product), secondary packaging (boxes, cartons for retail display), and labeling (Supplement Facts panel, claims, warnings). Packaging must meet FDA requirements for food-contact materials, child-resistant closures (where required), and labeling regulations (21 CFR 101 and Part 111). Packaging choice affects product stability, shelf life, and consumer perception.
What It Is Not
Packaging quality does not indicate product quality. Premium packaging can contain poor formulations, and simple packaging can contain excellent products. However, packaging does directly impact product stability — the wrong container can degrade active ingredients.
