ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System
Issued by International Organization for Standardization (ISO)
StandardAudit Scope
Specifies requirements for an occupational health and safety (OH&S) management system, including hazard identification, risk assessment, worker participation, and incident investigation.
What It Proves
An organization has implemented an OH&S management system meeting ISO 45001 requirements, third-party audited by an accredited certification body. Superseded OHSAS 18001 in 2018.
What It Does Not Prove
ISO 45001 certifies SYSTEMS, not safety outcomes. A 45001-certified facility may still have workplace incidents — the cert validates process discipline. US OSHA compliance is a separate legal mandate; 45001 does not substitute for or supersede OSHA recordkeeping.
