JHNFA Health Food GMP (Japan)

Issued by Japan Health and Nutrition Food Association (JHNFA, 公益財団法人 日本健康・栄養食品協会)

Certification

Audit Scope

Factory-by-factory GMP certification of Japanese health-food makers under the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare's health food GMP guidance; each row of the list gives one certificate number to one factory or to a named group of factories. JHNFA certifies factories for finished products (製品: formulation and packaging, formulation only, or packaging only) and for raw materials (原材料). The Ministry's 2012 leaflet names it as one of the two third-party bodies for this review; the other is JIHFS.

What It Proves

JHNFA lists the factory or factories a row names as certified to its health food GMP, with the certificate number, the prefecture, the scope (finished products with formulation and packaging, formulation only or packaging only, or raw materials) and a certification date (認定日).

What It Does Not Prove

It is a Japanese voluntary GMP certification for the factory or factories one row names, NOT FDA cGMP compliance under 21 CFR Part 111, not FDA registration and not a product test. It covers only the factories that row names, not the company's other sites. JHNFA states a certification runs three years and is renewed every three years, with one on-site interim review each year; the list shows a certification date and no expiry date, so the list's own date is what shows a certification is current. A packaging-only scope does not cover making the product.
