Certified Plant Based (Plant Based Foods Association)

Issued by Plant Based Foods Association (PBFA)

Certification

Audit Scope

Trustmark program for food products made from plants. Manufacturer attestation + PBFA program review of ingredient composition verifies product meets PBFA's plant-based definition. Distinct from generic 'plant-based' marketing claims.

What It Proves

PBFA has reviewed product formulation to confirm it meets the 'Certified Plant Based' definition (no animal-derived ingredients) per PBFA program requirements. Logo licensable on approved products.

What It Does Not Prove

Does NOT mean the product is vegan-certified — Vegan Action / Vegan Awareness Foundation administers a distinct certification with different scope. Does NOT require on-site facility audit. Does NOT certify the product is healthy, allergen-free, organic, or kosher. Does NOT prevent shared-equipment cross-contamination from non-plant-based products unless cleaning protocols are documented. PBFA primarily certifies food products — supplement applicability depends on whether the supplement is classified as a food.
