ISO/IEC 17025

Certification

Also known as: ISO 17025, 17025 Accreditation, Lab accreditation

International standard for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories.

What It Means

ISO/IEC 17025 specifies requirements for laboratories to demonstrate competence, impartiality, and consistent operation. Accreditation is granted by bodies like A2LA (US), SCC (Canada), and ANAB for specific test methods — not blanket coverage. For supplements, ISO 17025 accreditation means the lab has been independently assessed for technical competence in its declared scope of testing.

What It Is Not

ISO 17025 accreditation is method-specific, not lab-wide. A lab accredited for microbiology may not be accredited for heavy metals or potency testing. Always check the specific scope of accreditation. Also, 17025 is a laboratory standard — it does not apply to manufacturing facilities (that would be ISO 9001 or GMP).
