Orthodox Union (OU) Kosher Certification

Issued by Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America (OU)

Certification

Audit Scope

Reviews ingredients, equipment, and production processes for compliance with Orthodox Jewish dietary law (kashrut). Includes ingredient kosher status, equipment shared-use protocols, and Sabbath/holiday production rules.

What It Proves

A product, facility, or ingredient has been certified by OU as meeting Orthodox Union kashrut standards. OU is the largest and most widely-recognized kosher certifier globally.

What It Does Not Prove

OU kosher does NOT certify GMP, food safety, allergen control, or organic claims. Kosher symbols (OU, OU-D for dairy, OU-P for Passover) indicate religious-dietary compliance only. Confused with food-safety certification by some buyers — it is NOT a food-safety scheme.
