Dosage Form

Production

Also known as: Delivery format, Product format, Supplement form

The physical form in which a supplement is delivered (capsule, tablet, powder, etc.).

What It Means

Dosage form refers to the physical presentation of a supplement product. Common forms include: capsules (hard shell, softgel, vegetarian), tablets (compressed, coated, chewable), powders, liquids, gummies, stick packs, lozenges, and topicals. Each form has different manufacturing requirements, equipment needs, stability profiles, and consumer preferences. The choice of dosage form affects ingredient compatibility, bioavailability, and manufacturing cost.

What It Is Not

Dosage form does not determine efficacy. A capsule is not inherently better than a tablet or powder. Different forms may have different bioavailability profiles, but the evidence varies by ingredient. Marketing claims about superiority of one form are usually unsupported.
