SQF (Safe Quality Food)

Certification

Also known as: SQF Certification, SQF Code

GFSI-benchmarked food safety and quality management certification program.

What It Means

The Safe Quality Food (SQF) program is a GFSI-benchmarked food safety and quality management system. It has three certification levels: Level 1 (food safety fundamentals), Level 2 (HACCP-based food safety plans), and Level 3 (comprehensive food safety and quality management). SQF is recognized by major retailers and food service companies as a pre-qualification for suppliers.

What It Is Not

SQF is a food industry standard, not supplement-specific. SQF certification does not satisfy 21 CFR Part 111 cGMP requirements for dietary supplements. However, a facility with SQF Level 2+ likely has robust quality systems that overlap with supplement GMP requirements.
