HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points)
Issued by Codex Alimentarius Commission (implemented via FDA, USDA regulations)
StandardAudit Scope
Systematic approach to food safety: hazard identification, critical control points, monitoring procedures, corrective actions, verification, record-keeping.
What It Proves
Facility has implemented a hazard analysis system for food safety. May be self-implemented or third-party verified.
What It Does Not Prove
HACCP is a methodology, not a certification in itself. 'HACCP Compliant' without third-party verification is a self-assessment. HACCP does not replace cGMP — it supplements it. For supplements specifically, 21 CFR Part 111 already incorporates HACCP principles.
