What It Means
NSF International is an independent organization that develops public health standards and provides testing and certification services. For supplements, NSF offers: GMP Registration (facility audit per NSF/ANSI 455-2), Contents Certification (product-level testing), and Certified for Sport (banned substance testing for athletes). NSF is one of the most recognized third-party certifiers in the supplement industry.
What It Is Not
NSF is NOT a government agency — it is an independent, not-for-profit organization. 'NSF Certified' is ambiguous because NSF offers multiple programs (GMP, Contents, Sport). Always verify WHICH NSF program applies.
