Bergstrom Nutrition, now a division of Balchem Corporation, is the only North American manufacturer of methylsulfonylmethane (MSM), marketed under the brand name OptiMSM. Founded in 1988 in Vancouver, Washington by chemical engineers George Bergstrom and Bob Cowan, the company uses a proprietary four-stage distillation process. OptiMSM is the only MSM designated as GRAS, having received a Letter of Non-Objection from the FDA. The product is manufactured at a single-purpose, cGMP-compliant, ISO-registered facility in Vancouver, WA. Every batch is third-party tested for purity, quality, and consistency. Bergstrom was acquired by Balchem Corporation in August 2022.
